PM Awas Yojana 2.0: Affordable Housing for Urban India

PM Awas Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched with the ambitious goal of ensuring a pucca house for every eligible urban household in India, targeting categories such as Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low-Income Groups (LIG), and Middle-Income Groups (MIG), including slum dwellers. Initially envisioned as “Housing for All by 2022,” PMAY aimed to address the housing crisis and promote affordable, sustainable living options through its Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).

Recently, the government introduced an upgraded version—PMAY Urban 2.0—to address ongoing challenges in urban housing and to make homeownership more accessible amidst rising property and land prices. This article explores the objectives, features, and updates of PMAY 2.0.
